hat better resolution for the New Year than to "Live in God's Grace".
The beautiful banner in our sanctuary calls us to experience the challenge, excitement, and blessings that come into our lives when we remember each day the wonderful gift of grace that God has given us.
In the banner, God's grace extends down from heaven to the world, bridging the chasm between God and humans. Every person is a unique individual, as represented by the different fabrics in the circle. The circle is a reminder that we are all interconnected and each one of us is an important part of God's world. The dove symbolizes God's Spirit that is available to everyone.
The creation of the banner in June 2002 was a great community effort! Terry Anderson put the ideas into motion and directed the "music" like a conductor, while others pitched in to do the work. Aaron Witham's mother sent a book about banners from the U.S. and Terry took the design from it with minor modifications. Aaron enlarged the pattern.
Terry collected fabric scraps from people in the congregation, so it became a little bit of a quilt. Julie L'Argent and Terry struggled to find an appropriate background color and came up with dark blue. Julie arranged the colors and cut out the patterns, and Caryn Mackey sewed everything together in record time even though her parents were visiting.
Finally, the banner was hung and ICB members had, and still have, a beautiful visual reminder of God's love.
