Sunday, 1st May 2022
is delivered in-person & on zoom by our minister, Revd. Chee Keong Yong
The text for the Gospel brings us to consider another of the resurrection appearances of Jesus. Too often, there is an impulse to look at the accomplishments of the disciples rather than focusing on the subject matter – Jesus. Nevertheless, we shall take a brief look at the disciples’ efforts at fishing.
People who are energetic cannot sit still. This is true for some of the disciples and on this occasion, Peter got bored with doing nothing and suggested going fishing. He was joined by a few others. They fished all night and caught nothing.
Catching nothing! Hmmm… Is it okay to catch nothing? How many ventures to fish have we made when we caught nothing or perhaps nothing much to show for our effort? Have we been catching nothing?
Catching nothing is a call to change strategy. People involved in business know this, instinctively. You cannot continue for too long. Catching nothing is a wake-up call. Are we willing to change strategy? Just imagine, a carpenter telling fisherfolk how to fish. How outrageous! Yet, the call to throw the nets onto the other side of the boat sounds foolish. Do fish gather on the other side of the boat?
The focus here is not the disciples’ failure at fishing or even the fish gathering on one side of the boat. It is about the need to hearken to Jesus’ words.
The event here recorded puts the focus squarely back on Jesus. This is a clear announcement that Jesus has risen. This is no illusion or vision. This is no figment of imagination. Here in this event, Jesus is eating – a clear indication that he is alive.
Would you thus follow the risen, Lord?
Join us this Sunday to follow the risen Lord.

We pray that the recently agreed truce in fighting in both The Yemen and Ethiopia will transform into permanent endings of hostilities in those countries.

Fellowship is essential for the wellbeing of any true community – but it’s not so easy when we cannot meet personally face-to-face, though hopefully many of us will be soon.
At ICB, we wish to develop new ways to extend Christian fellowship among all of us during 2022. We invite you to help with your ideas for such fellowship activities.
Mary Santhi has recently taken on the role of ICB Fellowship Chair but she needs a committee to lead!
Mary cannot undertake the work alone and so she is inviting you to join her in one of the most important and joyful aspects of the church which is appreciated by everybody.
Please send an email to Mary and she will respond by telling you more: email@example.com
One of Mary’s early ideas for Fellowship is to recognise everybody’s birthday so we can all pray for every person on her/his special day. Birthday greetings are now appearing on the ‘ICB Morning Service’ LINE app. Unfortunately, our list of birthdays is far from complete and so, if you are in agreement, please let Mary know by email your special day (your birth year won’t be posted without your consent).
