We will join together

 this Sunday at BCC

10th September 2023

at 10.00 am

Bangkok Christian College

Our service will be conducted and sermon delivered by our minister,
Revd. Chee Keong Yong
This week’s theme:
Enough of forgiveness.”

Scripture Readings for this week:
Exodus 14:19-31*
Psalm 114*
Romans 14:1-12*
Matthew 18:21-35*

(*click for online Bible)
Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:

Peter came to Jesus with a question on the number of times that one needs to forgive. We are not told the reason for his question. As always, Peter is impetuous with words. He says things without much thought.

Perhaps, he had wanted to portray himself as better than the other disciples. Just as he asked the question, he did not wait for an answer but offered one himself. Seven times? Wow! Where did he come with such a figure? It was generally accepted that one need only to forgive as much as three times. Seven times would be impressive. He was waiting for approval from his lord.

He did not get that but again was deflated when Jesus said seventy times seven OR seventy-seven times. The numbers here are not important. It was meant to suggest an infinite number of times. So do we then mutter under our own breath forgiveness multiplied by the number of times given by Jesus?

It is easier said than done. Forgiveness that does not come with a price is no forgiveness. If God would just pronounce forgiveness to all humanity for all the sins against him, that would be awesome. Hold on! Cheap forgiveness does not amount to much. This is the crux of the issue here with Peter’s sense of forgiveness.

Join us this Sunday at our 10.00 am worship service at the Bangkok Christian College.

Blessings

Chee

  • The committee has begun interviewing a small group of candidates and gathering references in order to recommend the best applicant to the church council.
  • Meanwhile, please continue to pray for wisdom and God’s guidance for committee members and short listed candidates as we approach this critical point of the search process.
  • Pastor Chee has accepted the Council’s invitation to extend his term with us until 5th November 2023.

ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International

An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International. (Below are more details on our work with Life Raft.)

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.

We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum.
