Unfairness in life”

Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:

Allow yourself to step into the shoes of the Canaanite woman in today’s Gospel. So much of it is a demonstration of the unfairness we see all around us. By virtue of her status, ethnicity, race, etc., she was scorned by society on every side.

To have Jesus come along and be faced with the same scorn from the man known for compassion would surely be the last straw. She had been through so much in life that she would not be denied again, no matter who he is. She shouted at the top of her voice to be heard.

She was heard and Jesus responded and remarked on her remarkable stubborn faith.

Have you been in the same shoes as this woman? I see this displayed in media over and over again – desperate refugees trying to gain a foothold to a better life elsewhere. So many are denied and a lot by forceful means – KEEP OUT.

Will you be denied? What have you been denied by Jesus?

This Sunday, we again meet on Zoom. Please use the same Zoom link as last Sunday.

Blessings

Chee

Neither the Sunday School nor the Choir will meet this Sunday. They will resume at BCC next Sunday on 27th August and onwards.

  • The Pastoral Search Committee has reviewed 41 applications and selected candidates for the next stage of the search process.
  • Those selected will receive a questionnaire that will be due on August 25.
  • During this period, the search committee will also review sermons.
  • In early September, the committee will begin interviewing a smaller group of candidates and gather references in order to recommend the best applicant to the church council.
  • Please continue to pray for wisdom and God’s guidance for committee members and short listed candidates as we approach this critical point of the search process.
  • Pastor Chee has accepted the Council’s invitation to extend his term with us until the end of November this year.
ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International

An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International. (Below are more details on our work with Life Raft.)

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.

We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum.
