This week’s theme:
“Compared to ‘dirt’ ”
Scripture Readings for this week:
Old Testament: Genesis 28:10-19a*
Old Testament: Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24*
Scripture: Romans 8:12-25*
Gospel: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43*

Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:
When I was much younger, my mother often assigned me the task of weeding. I often approached the task with reluctance. She didn’t seem to understand that I had difficulty differentiating weeds from grass. So, when I found pretty yellow flowers on some, I tended to think that those were grass, and I would weed the rest, to my mother’s horror. I often got punished for doing “right”.
So, when I come across this parable from Jesus, this sounds like a good objection to the task of weeding. It is Jesus’ own words, not mine.
Does anyone else have a problem with “weeding”? Having been in church ministry for a long time, I still do not like weeding. I have often been advised by different individuals in the church to “weed” – getting rid of “types” of people that some are uncomfortable with.
To be sure, Jesus is not saying that there are no sinners or bad people. The task of segregating “weed” from “wheat” is not a task for the present time. God has appointed a time for it.
Our task here on earth is influencing and transforming others through acts of grace. This is not even about whether we are being “inclusive” or not. It is not idling around but proactively transforming individuals, societies, and institutions with the truth of God as mediated in and through Jesus.
Join us this Sunday @ church and we will dig into this parable closely.
Blessings
Chee

Do you enjoy listening to the Choir?
Do you hum along to yourself?
Then why not join in with them as a singer and experience the joy of creating music with others?
Whatever your age, you can learn (or relearn) to sing.
It’s never too late to start, and ICB choir is the perfect place to do so.
So please consider becoming a new singer! Yes, YOU!
Restarting on 30 July, if you enjoy singing, even to yourself in the shower, please join our choir each week by arriving around 9 am, before Sunday service, for practice. All are welcome to take part, even if you have little or no music experience. (It’s fun and this is a good place to start) |
Please note:
The choir is on Summer break and will not meet this coming Sunday 23rd July. Our choir resumes meeting on 30th July. |

ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International
An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International. (Below are more details on our work with Life Raft.)

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.
We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum. |

Our newly appointed Outreach leader needs others to assist in developing this important work of ICB.

Fellowship is essential for the wellbeing of any true community – Now that we can all meet personally face-to-face, we need to resume regular social events together.
At ICB, we wish to develop new ways to extend Christian fellowship among all of us during 2023.
We invite you to help with your ideas for weekly and occasional fellowship activities.
