Sunday, 25th September 2022

is delivered by our minister,
Revd. Chee Keong Yong
Revd. Chee introduces his sermon theme this week:

Theme: “The Reversal

Scripture Readings for this week:
Old Testament: Jeremiah 32:1-3; 32:6-15*
Psalms: Psalm 91:1-6; 91:14-16*
Epistle: 1 Timothy 6:6-19*

Gospel: Luke 16:19-31*

Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:
The text for the Gospel is not one that can be addressed easily for it touches our pockets. We do not like to be reminded too often about our obligations to serve the poor. Once or twice a year will perhaps suffice. The good thing is that the readings are not chosen by me as they are appointed readings. You go to any mainline denomination throughout the world and you will
have the same readings for Sunday.

The text gives us a discourse between a rich man in the afterlife with Father Abraham. It is unfortunate to see him in a place that is not too comfortable, putting it mildly. There is no air-conditioning to cool the temperature down nor is a glass of cold water given. Notwithstanding, he seems to be quite demanding of Father Abraham, requesting that Lazarus tend to his physical needs.

I guess that most rich people do expect others to serve them. After all, that is the lifestyle of the rich. There may be those who differ and God bless them. But generally, our world is one where the haves are in one corner and the have-nots in the other.

There will be a reversal of fortunes in the afterlife. This gives hope to the have-nots. I am not sure how comforting this will be for the have-nots in this life. But the message is not directed to the have-nots. It is for the haves.

There is a gulf between the haves and have-nots in the afterlife. That gulf can only be bridged in
this life and not hereafter.

Do you buy into this story, I wonder?

Join us this Sunday at church and God bless you.

Notes about In-person and online worship:

From now onwards, Sunday Morning Worship will be for in
person attendance
only at Student Christian Center (SCC).
Zoom relay is not now available for all, though there are a few
exceptions (see below). We believe it is high time we joined together in person again and start to rebuild our community. Please make every effort to join us in person.

ICB Choir: If you enjoy singing, please join in by arriving about 45 minutes before the service for practice. All are welcome, even if you have little experience.

Sunday School is now meeting again for young children during part of the worship time (see below).

Exceptions: For a limited period, Zoom will continue to be made available but only to those who are
a) unwell or with disabilities preventing their travel to SCC
b) living or travelling in the provinces or abroad.
These people, a) and b), who wish to worship via Zoom are asked to contact Pastor Chee via email  before the service.
They will receive an email reply with a special meeting code and password.

ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International

An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International.

Fellowship is essential for the wellbeing of any true community – but it’s not so easy when we cannot all meet personally face-to-face, and have no social events.
At ICB, we wish to develop new ways to extend Christian fellowship among all of us during 2022. We invite you to help with your ideas for such fellowship activities.

The ICB Outreach Committee welcomes new members to join our hardworking team to help ICB share the love of Jesus with Bangkok.
The International Church of Bangkok

5% of ICB’s yearly total income goes directly to the outreach partners. Members and friends are also encouraged to give directly through the Church account.

In the first half of this year, a total of 78,000THB has been given to eight of our mission partners. Reports from three of them have been uploaded to our FB page – These are from Cornerstone Chapel Hatyai, Rahab Ministries Bangkok, and Concordia Welfare & Education Foundation Bangkok.
