This week’s theme:
“Come, Holy Spirit”
Scripture Readings for this week:
Old Testament: Psalm 104:24-34, 35b*
New Testament: Acts 2:1-21*
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:3-13*
Gospel: John 20:19-23*
(*click for online Bible)
Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:
The disciples were told by their Lord to wait for the coming of the Spirit. The difficult thing about such a statement is that none of them have any idea how this was to transpire.
Were they to expect a well-dressed person knocking on the door? How would they recognize the Spirit when and where this might happen? They were all surprised enough when Jesus returned to life though most of them were not expecting it.
The resurrection of Jesus was to them all, a mystery difficult enough to comprehend. Luke then gave us the detail of how the Spirit came in Acts 2. Wow, what an entry!
“Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.”
A violent wind! I do not know about your situation, perhaps we do need a bit of wind in Thailand with the weather so yucky. However, people in New Zealand will disapprove of my wish as they have been having loads of violent wind. The metaphors used to describe the Holy Spirit are varied according to human experiences.
What is yours? Would you like to share about it?
Come and have a taste of the Holy Spirit this coming Sunday at our Sunday service at 10.00 am at the Bangkok Christian College.
Blessings
Chee
Sunday School meets every week for young children during part of the worship time. Parents are encouraged to bring their children of any age.

Do you enjoy listening to the Choir?
Do you hum along to yourself?
Then why not join in with them as a singer and experience the joy of creating music with others?
Everyone of ALL AGES can learn (or relearn) to sing. It’s never too late to start, and ICB choir is the perfect place to do so.Why Sing in a Choir? 5 Healthy Reasons
REASON 1: Musicality. It improves the way you hear music and intensifies your appreciation of harmony.
REASON 2: Mental Health. Singing enhances brain function, strengthens feelings of togetherness, and reduces stress and depression.
REASON 3: Confidence. Anyone can learn to sing! Singing in a church choir gives you permission to make noise as part of a group and lose any fear of performing in front of others.
REASON 4: Belonging. Many people feel isolated. Being part of a singing group fulfils the need for belonging and quickly forms social bonds. It’s a powerful ice-breaker, making new friends with diverse backgrounds, widening horizons and improving social cohesion.
REASON 5: Aerobic and toning. Singing is a wonderful workout for the lungs! More oxygen in the blood strengthens your entire body. Slower and deeper breathing gives a profound sense of well-being and is excellent to combat asthma and emphysema. Your posture in singing strengthens stomach muscles that support the spine, making you less prone to injury as you age.

So, what are you waiting for?

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.
We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum. |
