Revd. Chee Keong Yong
This week’s theme:
Way of the Cross”

Scripture Readings for this week:

ICB Pastor, Chee Keong Yong, introduces this week’s theme:

Last Sunday, Matthew the Gospel writer led us to consider the question as to who Jesus is. It is a question that perhaps still baffles many today, including Christians. It would have been easy for us to see Jesus as one of the prophets. Peter’s impetuous response that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), the Son of the living God is more hype than anything else. Jesus had to deflate him almost immediately. The curious thing about last Sunday’s Gospel reading is that Jesus forbade the disciples to tell anyone about his identity. How come?

One possible answer is that the disciples still had no clue as to who Jesus really was. This is reflected in today’s Gospel reading.

There was an expectation among the Jews that the Messiah liberate them from Roman rule. To hear Jesus telling them about his eventual death at the hands of the Romans was preposterous. Three years of their lives spent with Jesus would have been a total waste.

Do we think that we know Jesus any better than the disciples? Jesus asked, “Who do men say that I am?” Then he turned towards the disciples and asked, “Who do you say that I am?”

What is our individual answer to the question?

This Sunday is Communion Sunday. Let’s come together to remember Jesus in His Word and through the sacraments.

Blessings

Chee

Already busily getting down to work on church accounts, meet
Khun Wasana Paksaranuwat (Nid),
ICB’s new Administrative Assistant, who joined us this past week.
Please give her a warm welcome when she joins us for the first time at church tomorrow.
  • The Pastoral Search Committee has reviewed 41 applications and selected candidates for the next stage of the search process.
  • Those selected have received and answered a questionnaire and, during this period, the search committee is reviewing sermons.
  • Shortly, the committee will begin interviewing a small group of candidates and gather references in order to recommend the best applicant to the church council.
  • Meanwhile, please continue to pray for wisdom and God’s guidance for committee members and short listed candidates as we approach this critical point of the search process.
  • Pastor Chee has accepted the Council’s invitation to extend his term with us until the end of November this year.
  • Watch this space for more news when it happens….

ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International

An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International. (Below are more details on our work with Life Raft.)

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.

We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum.
