We will join together

Bangkok Christian College

Our service will be conducted and sermon delivered by our minister,
Revd. Chee Keong Yong
This week’s theme:
The Kingdom of God is like…

Scripture Readings for this week:
Old Testament: Genesis 29:15-28*
Old Testament: Psalm 105:1-11, 45b*
Scripture:  Romans 8:26-39*
Gospel:
*

Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:

Have you ever wondered what the Kingdom of God is like? There is a tendency to imagine the Kingdom in terms of majesty and grandeur. For most people in this world, such an imagining of the Kingdom gives hope for holding on through tough times.

Jesus does not seem to give us such a picture at all. He reckons that the Kingdom is like a mustard seed, leaven, finding treasure and hiding it in the field, looking for fine pearls or a dragnet cast into the sea. Do any of these pictures inspire you?

As I often mention, parables are meant to turn our understanding of God’s ways upside down. So here it is again – five mini parables and hopefully our worldviews of God’s Kingdom are not what our imaginings of it to be.

So what it be then? How do we imagine God’s kingdom?

Come this Sunday to join us in worshipping God and be surprised by Jesus’ teachings regarding the Kingdom.

Blessings

Chee

Do you enjoy listening to the Choir?
Do you hum along to yourself?
Then why not join in with them as a singer and experience the joy of creating music with others?
Whatever your age, you can learn (or relearn) to sing.
It’s never too late to start, and ICB choir is the perfect place to do so.

So please consider becoming a new singer!  Yes, YOU!
Restarting on this Sunday 30th July, if you enjoy singing, even to yourself in the shower, please join our choir each week by arriving around 9 am, before Sunday service, for practice. All are welcome to take part, even if you have little or no music experience. (It’s fun and this is a good place to start)
Please note:
The choir has been on Summer break but plans to meet this coming Sunday, 30th July and following weeks.

ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International

An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International. (Below are more details on our work with Life Raft.)

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.

We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum.

ICB URGENTLY needs people like YOU!

Owing to several people leaving ICB and Thailand over the past months, the ICB Church Council is seeking people to fill the following positions as soon as possible and/or members on all the committees:

  • Outreach – continuing contact with and support for our 8 social service partners
Our newly appointed Outreach leader needs others to assist in further developing this important work of ICB. Email Deborah at outreach@icbangkok.org
  • Worship – overseeing Church services
  • Fellowship – In organising ICB community activities, more helpers are needed.

All you need is the motivation to help us to develop our ICB community and outreach partners with Jesus as our guide.

To find out more, please contact
Pastor Chee        minister@icbangkok.org

Fellowship is essential for the wellbeing of any true community – Now that we can all meet personally face-to-face, we need to resume regular social events together.
At ICB, we wish to develop new ways to extend Christian fellowship among all of us during 2023.
We invite you to help with your ideas for weekly and occasional fellowship activities.
