Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:
Most of us will be familiar with this story about Zaccheus as told by Luke in the Gospel. Remember that Luke is writing his Gospel with Theophilus in mind. He is introducing Jesus to Theophilus, a God-seeker. Luke does not go about expounding doctrines concerning God. He is simply telling stories about Jesus’ interaction with the people that sought after him, very much like Theophilus himself. We do well to keep this in mind. Evangelism is merely the telling of stories about Jesus.
Zaccheus if we remember this character at all is not someone that people will gravitate to. In fact, he is very much hated. He is the tax collector – not the friendly sort that is found in huge office blocks nowadays working on how much tax you owe. Tax collectors in Jesus’ days are the bad guys that come around with Roman muscle to grab what you owe.
So when this little guy wanted to see Jesus, he did not shove his way through the crowd. He climbed up a sycamore tree to get a good view of Jesus.
Do you know of a God-seeker like Zaccheus? Jesus took notice of him and invited himself to stay at his place. To know the rest of the story, join us this Sunday at church and know that in God’s sight, no one is little.
Blessings,
Chee
