Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:
Our reflection comes from the Gospel reading which is a continuation of last week’s reading from the Beatitudes. It begins with the emphatic sayings from Jesus –
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”
Do we feel like being salt and light though? Who was Jesus referring to with these sayings? It may be that we do not wish to take too much credit – perhaps 5% or 10% or just a little salt and light. But this is not what Jesus said. It is not a matter of percentages.
Too often, we like being modest about ourselves. Some perhaps may like to boast their superiority like the Corinthians to which Paul wrote his letter.
This is the flaw in our perception – it is not how much we try to be “salt and light” through our own efforts or even attempt daily to follow Jesus’ words.
For Jesus, all those who would be his followers are “salt and light” by virtue of the fact that they are in Him. Have a taste of yourself – you are the salt of the earth. Behold the light – you. The only thing left to do is to be an enhancer (as a preservative) or just let it shine (not make it shine or light it up).
Join us on Sunday to discover the remarkable person that you are in Jesus.
Blessings,
Chee
