We will join together

 this Sunday

7th May 2023

at 10.00 am

Bangkok Christian College

Our service will be conducted and sermon delivered by our minister,
Revd. Chee Keong Yong
This week’s theme: ” Show us the Father ”

Scripture Readings for this week:
Old Testament: Psalm 31:1-5, 15,16*
New Testament: Acts 7:55-60*
Scripture:  1 Peter 2:2-10*
Gospel:  John 14:1-14*

Pastor Chee introduces this week’s theme:

The text for the Gospel today has often been used at funerals. The words “Do not let your hearts be troubled” are to encourage those who are bereaved. The passage is also a reminder that anyone who is in Christ will share a life in the hereafter. It is encouraging to hear these words from Jesus.

However, I like to suggest that perhaps there is much more weight given by Jesus in this text on another matter. It is Jesus’ emphasis on his relationship with the Father. The word “Father” or “Abba” (Aramaic) is repeated eleven times in this short text.

In no other religions, do adherents use the word “Father” to describe their relationship with God. It will do us well then, to have a little understanding about our use of the word, “Father” in addressing God.

Come and join us on Sunday for the worship of God our Father. We will also be having the Lord’s Supper as we normally do on the first Sunday of each month.

Blessings

Chee

Sunday School meets every week for young children during part of the worship time. Parents are encouraged to bring their children of any age.

ICB Choir needs new singers!:
If you enjoy singing, please join our choir each week by arriving about 9 am, before Sunday service, for practice. All are welcome to take part, even if you have little or no music experience. (It’s fun and a good place to start!)
See more, below, about why you should sing in our choir.

At last week’s General Meeting, the following ICB Members were formally approved for serving on
The Pastoral Search Committee:

Grace Abueva
Analiza “Lizl” Amurao
Didid Dwiana
Kris Panijpan
Margaret McMillion
My Hang Tran

The committee will hold its first meeting this Sunday, May 7th, to organize its work.
Periodic reports on progress will be be given to all through this church newsletter.

Our search committee needs us to pray for them regularly as they start this most important task for our church:
May God grant them Unity, Spiritual Strength, Wisdom
and Endurance in what could be a long process.

Sunday School takes place
every Sunday at SCC

Do you hum along to yourself?
Then why not join in with them as a singer and experience the joy of creating music with others?
Everyone of ALL AGES can learn (or relearn) to sing. It’s never too late to start, and ICB choir is the perfect place to do so.Why Sing in a Choir?
REASON 1:  Musicality. It improves the way you hear music and intensifies your appreciation of harmony.
REASON 2:  Mental Health. Singing enhances brain function, strengthens feelings of togetherness, and reduces stress and depression.
REASON 3:  Confidence. Anyone can learn to sing!  Singing in a church choir gives you permission to make noise as part of a group and lose any fear of performing in front of others.
REASON 4: find out in next week’s newsletter…….So, what are you waiting for?
Come at 9 am on any Sunday morning and find out!

We, at ICB, support displaced individuals and families in Bangkok with regular financial support through Life Raft International.

We also offer congregational, emotional and spiritual assistance.
Who qualifies?
Those who have been granted (or are applying for) recognition as refugees by UNHCR.
Why do we need to help these people?
Ongoing support is needed to help them bridge the gap while they seek and wait for resettlement in another country, which most often takes many years.
UNHCR recognition very rarely means they can live and work freely in their country of asylum.

ICB URGENTLY needs people like YOU!

Owing to several people leaving ICB and Thailand over the past months, the ICB Church Council is seeking people to fill the following positions as soon as possible:

  • Outreach – continuing contact with and support for our 8 social service partners
  • Worship – overseeing Church services
  • Fellowship – organising ICB community activities
  • Membership – welcoming new people to our church and maintaining contact with all members.
  • Personnel and Property – overseeing needs of our employees and facilities

None of these positions requires specialist skills nor a large amount of time.
All you need is the motivation to help us to develop our ICB community and outreach partners with Jesus as our guide.

ICB – Caring for Displaced People through partnership Life Raft International

An updated document relating to the above has now been uploaded to the Policies section of our website. The ICB Council has been working with Life Raft International for many years in seeking to relocate people to various countries for resettlement. The uploaded document gives clear parameters of our relationship with Life Raft International.

Fellowship is essential for the wellbeing of any true community – Now that we can all meet personally face-to-face, we need to resume regular social events together.
At ICB, we wish to develop new ways to extend Christian fellowship among all of us during 2023.
We invite you to help with your ideas for weekly and occasional fellowship activities.
